Creative tile designs for an East Mesa winter home.
Using mini tiles to accent the shower and home entryway.
The Shower Tile Design Installation
I enjoy creating designs for showers and bathrooms. Many times, you are able to build out full designs that start at the floor and continue all the way up to the ceiling.
This really makes your designs a work of art. This is why I sometimes think of myself as an artist; designing with tile instead of a paintbrush.
In this project we used some banding technics to implement a mosaic design. This design allows for a break in the tile, separating the tile halfway between the ceiling and the shower floor. This does two things: it adds depth to make the shower area seem larger, it also adds a sensation of surprise.
The top half of the design, using the ceramic tiles at a 45° angle, creates a diamond formation. The bottom half is the traditional straight lay. Combining these two different patterns with the break in the center with the mosaic banding, creates a fun area with the space.
Flooring entryway Custom Tile Design
This design features several advance design techniques. The complexity of the design immediately sets tone for level of elegance.
Separating the tiered layout of the 12’ x 12’ ceramic tile are 2’ x 2’ square windmill designs. The windmill designs not only breakup the large ceramic tile designs, but give the entire design a dynamic motion. This motion is further amplified by the moving frame border. This entryway tile design is not for every home, but it really came together well in this contemporary home.
In the words of John Hannibal, “I love it when a plan comes together”.
