COOL FLOORING OPTIONS FOR PHOENIX RESIDENCES LOOKING TO STAY COOL THIS SUMMER.
SO WHAT DOES FLOORING HAVE TO DO WITH KEEPING A HOME COOL?
Every summer, in the Valley of the Sun, we are looking for ways to cut down on energy costs. I know when I receive my summer electric bill I can tell that my AC unit is working extra hard to keep my home at a desirable temperature.
Many of my customers are surprised to discover that the flooring they select can improve their home’s energy efficiency. Here are some options that I review with my customers when they are considering ideas for flooring that will keep their home cool.
TYPES OF FLOORING TO INSTALL THAT WILL KEEP YOUR HOME COOLER IN THE BRUTAL PHOENIX HEAT.
Tile Flooring
Tile flooring can be a bad idea for an area that receives direct sunlight. Tile will absorb and release a good amount of heat when exposed to direct sunlight.
However, if the tile is not receiving direct sunlight, it can be a good option to keep your room cooler. This goes for ceramic tile as well as vinyl flooring.
Vinyl and linoleum tile are the best options as they are resistant to absorbing heat.
Carpet Flooring
Carpet is normally a bad idea when trying to keep a home cool;.it keeps heat in more than any other flooring type.
If you absolutely must have carpet, try to install a light colored carpet. The lighter the color the less heat will be radiated from it.
As an alternative to carpet, consider bamboo. Bamboo is not always affordable for everyone, but it does a great job staying cool in the summer, and it even keeps warm in the few cool winter days we have here in Phoenix.
Concrete Flooring
Concrete flooring gives the benefit of being eco-friendly while keeping your home cool. It is also very versatile and long lasting. Concrete flooring is no longer something only used in commercial settings. With all the options for texture, color, polish, etc. you can install concrete flooring in any room of your home.
